The Design Process

1.The design brief

When we first meet we will develop a clear design brief together, discussing what you want from your garden and your maintenance requirements. We will discuss the flow from house to garden and your personal style and design likes. We often work with architects and interior designers to ensure a consistent vision between house and garden. After the initial meeting you will receive a design proposal, a breakdown of design fees for the job and, finally, the contract.

2. Concept to final design plan

A detailed survey of your garden is then carried out and the concept design work commences. We will develop a 2D or a 3D concept design to show how your garden will look upon completion. At this stage the garden design is discussed in detail, including the landscaping materials, specific features and feature planting. The final design will include any amendments which come to light at this meeting. The final 2D plan is presented with the design specification documents for contract tendering. Landscape contractors use this documentation to prepare the garden build quotation. We typically recommend working with a selection of trusted landscapers that we know and trust - but we can also work with your own contractor as needed. We can also manage the tendering process too, acting as a trusted project manager for you.

3. Planting plan

A planting plan is drawn up based on your preferences and the growing conditions in your garden. There will be specific emphasis on year-round form, colour and foliage. The planting scheme will suit your maintenance requirements and the cost of the plants and planting is finalised. We source your plants through high quality nurseries. We can either set them out for a contractor to plant or we can plant them for you. We also provide an internet based monthly care plan to guide you on how best to care for your new plants.

4. Project supervision

We provide project supervision to ensure the design and planting process is completed professionally and effectively - from initial concept through to final project sign off. We are also very happy to make follow-up visits at three, six and 12 month intervals to ensure your garden continues to develop as planned. We hope that when you have seen some of my work you‘ll feel inspired to get in touch.
